Residential
Reflections for Youth, Inc. operates two residential programs in the Larimer County, Colorado, providing services for youth between the ages of 11-18 in each facility. One male Therapeutic Residential Child Care Facility licensed for up to 14 youth is located in Berthoud, CO. One female Therapeutic Residential Child Care Facility licensed for up to 10 youth is located in Loveland, CO. With an intentionally limited number of youth, individual needs are met so youth may grow and receive as much support as necessary. The RFY program is very community based and housed in a setting that allows individual goal achievement and a sense of belonging to a small peer group.
Reflections for Youth residential programming is intended for temporary safety and stabilization of youth in crisis. Program progress is monitored by each individual client's treatment team comprised of RFY staff, the client's parents/guardians, and any county, state or school district staff invested in the client's progress. The length of stay in the program is determined by overall treatment needs and the involvement of all persons deemed appropriate to be part of the youth’s treatment team. In general this consists of counseling, educational and clinical staff, county placement workers, probation officers, and of course the parent or guardian and the youth himself or herself. Currently, the average length of stay is approximately six to nine months.
The RFY program strives to empower each client to learn responsibility to make positive choices. Clients attend educational and therapeutic groups, and are encouraged to utilize counseling, education and clinical staff and their peers to discuss problems, issues, thoughts and feelings. Therapeutic groups offered at RFY include: emotions management, stress management, self-esteem building, problem solving/conflict resolution, life skills, and drug and alcohol education and therapy.
RFY involves youth in a myriad of local service learning projects and recreational activities. With the help of a broad base of supporters, RFY makes a diligent effort to offer youth the “practice” of returning to a lower level of care. Several RFY youth have the opportunity to get a job and participate in independent activities while residing in RFY homes. The overall milieu environment is designed to assist the youth in learning the skills necessary to be successful in a less structured setting when they leave the program. Reflections for Youth, Inc., has a very thorough training program to train counseling staff to successfully run the groups, organize and manage the milieu and helping each youth grow in a safe environment. Staff are trained and encouraged to be positive role models for the youth they serve. Counseling staff are awake and available 24 hours a day, and youth to staff ratios are a minimum of 4:1 during all waking hours.
