Residential

Reflections for Youth, Inc. operates three residential programs in the Loveland and Berthoud area of Larimer County. We provide services for youth between the ages of 11 - 18 in each of our facilities. Two of our homes are for male youth and one of our homes is for female youth. Eight to ten youth reside in our rural residential settings and we have an intentionally small number of youth so individual needs can be met and they can grow and receive as much support as necessary.

The youth entering the program earn privileges by working a behavioral modification and support phase system. Our phase system consists of four phases that can be earned based on positive decision making, program participation and good behavioral choices. After two weeks to 30 days on each phase the youth can then apply for the next phase. Staff approval, milieu and treatment paperwork is required to secure the next higher phase. Natural and logical consequences are used when poor decisions are made or when program rules are not being followed.

The program at Reflections for Youth, Inc. is based on each youth striving to learn responsibility and being empowered to make positive choices. They attend educational and therapeutic groups, and are encouraged to utilize counseling, education and clinical staff and their peers to discuss problems, issues, thoughts and feelings. The groups include emotions management, stress management, self-esteem, problem solving/conflict resolution, life skills and drug and alcohol education and therapy. Also, since our program is community based we strive to involve our youth in a myriad of local service learning projects and recreational activities. With the help of our community, we make a diligent effort to offer our youth the “practice” of returning to a lower level of care. Several of our youth have the opportunity to get a job and participate in independent activities. The overall milieu environment is designed to assist the youth in learning the skills necessary to be successful in a less structured setting when they leave the program. Reflections for Youth, Inc. has a very thorough training program to train counseling staff to successfully run the groups, organize and manage the milieu and helping each youth grow in a safe environment. We teach our staff to be positive role models for the youth they serve. Counseling staff are awake and available 24 hours a day, and youth to staff ratios are a minimum of 4:1 during all awake hours.

The length of stay in the program is determined by overall treatment needs and the involvement of all persons deemed appropriate to be part of the youth’s treatment team. In general this consists of counseling, educational and clinical staff, county placement workers, probation officers, and of course the parent or guardian and the youth himself or herself. Currently, the average length of stay is approximately four to eight months.
